GOD’S GOVERNMENTAND FUN UNDER THE SUN

Who is like the wise man and who knows the interpretation of a matter? A man’s wisdom illumines his face and causes his stern face to beam. Ecclesiastes 8:1

Ohio has recently passed a law making it a felony to harm a dog or a cat. Ironically, in this state, murdering a baby by abortion is not criminal. Too often, man-made laws are non-sensical and do not seamlessly fit together. I’m sure that the people of Babylon experienced this when Nebuchadnezzar ordered them to bow before his statue, but then shortly afterwards commanded the people to only worship the God of Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah (Daniel 2:46-49).

King Solomon is making the point in Ecclesiastes 8 that we should obey the government because we don’t know what will happen (v. 7). Read 8:1-7. The church has similar commands in Romans 13:1-7. Read those verses also. I hate it that taxes are used for abortions. Yet, Romans 13:6 tells us to pay our taxes. I used to think that if I deducted the percentage used for abortions, then I could protest this heinous crime. Then, I learned that the government will use what I send for their purposes and indict me for breaking the law. It seems like we can’t win. But God says that we should keep the rules and He will take care of the results. I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m not God. Have you come to that conclusion?

Like Deuteronomy 32:4 says, God never makes mistakes. His ways are perfect. No wonder Solomon concludes that we should fear God, obey the government and enjoy life because you can have fun under the sun even when the sun goes under. Do you see that in Ecclesiastes 8:15-17?
