UNENDING GRACE

So she stayed close by the young women of Boaz in order to glean until the end of the barley harvest and the wheat harvest. And she lived with her mother-in-law. Ruth 2:23

Each time I prepare to mow my lawn I have a regular routine I follow. First I check the air filter; then I check the oil; and finally I fill the fuel tank. I have learned that if I fill the fuel tank completely, I can mow the whole lawn without running out. As I fill, I’m reminded of how futile things in this life can be. No matter how often I mow, the grass keeps growing. No matter how much fuel I put in the tank, it will eventually become empty.

How different God’s grace is. It never ends. It never runs out. It never stops. When Ruth first arrived in Boaz’ field, she had no idea of how long her harvesting there would last. Since the barley harvest ends around the middle of March and the wheat harvest ends around the end of May, this would mean that for 6-8 weeks she was able to enjoy the full benefits of grace. Ruth had only hoped for a day’s labor but ended up receiving much more food than she could ever have imagined.

“And God is able to make every grace abound to you, so that in everything at every time having every sufficiency, you may have an abundance for every good deed” (2 Corinthians 9:8). No matter what challenge you are facing today, remember that unlike your fuel tank, God’s grace never runs out!
