HAVING FUN UNDER THE SUN IN THE TWILIGHT OF LIFE

Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days happen and the years draw near in which you will say, ‘I have no delight in them.’  Ecclesiastes 12:1

A 9-year-old girl in the hospital was attended by a nurse who was a Christian. The nurse witnessed to this little girl, but the little girl said, “I’ll become a Christian when I’m old. I have plenty of time. I want to have fun now.” One day, some roses were delivered for the little girl. The nurse set them aside and didn’t water them. After they were wilted and dried, she took them in to the little girl. The 9-year-old said, “What’s this?! Who would give me these?!” The nurse answered, “This is what you want to give to God.”

The whole idea of having fun under the sun is tightly tied to sharing, serving and, now, submission. Children will not enjoy the life which God intended for them to have without a joyful submission to their parents’ words. Wives will not enjoy the life which God intended for them to have without a joyful submission to their husbands’ words. In fact, 1 Peter 3:1 makes it clear that this submission must be without backtalk. Moms, don’t be surprised if your children give you backtalk if you do the same to their dad. Husbands will not enjoy the life God has for them if they do not joyfully submit to the words of their employer and the government. The whole idea of authority and submission is good. God has designed it for our good. Only the rebellious heart rejects the good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Christians will not enjoy their Christian life without submission to the word of God. The joyful (fun) life is a submissive life. So, the only way to have fun under the sun is to find fun in the S-o-n. Do you know Him? Is He your Savior?
