TRUE OVERCOMERS

And they overcame him [Satan] because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their witness, and they did not love their life even to death. Revelation 12:11

Often I hear of those in Christian circles claim “Victory over Satan.” They do so by “Casting Satan out in the name of Jesus,” or they “Bind Lucifer in the name of Jesus.”  They believe that if they claim it in Jesus’ name that they will receive the victory they desire.  Others think that by their will power they can “resist the devil” until they gain the victory over their temptation.  This verse tells us the three ways to overcome “him” which refers to Satan.  The first is by “the blood of the Lamb.”  We don’t overcome Satan by our strength, power, efforts or good deeds.  It is the blood of Christ that gives us the victory. That is also the very basis of our salvation which is the ultimate victory.

Secondly, we overcome “by the word of [our] witness.”  Praising God, quoting Scripture and sharing our faith makes us able to overcome.  And finally, there is our commitment; the cause of Christ is more important than our very life. This one is easy to claim, but one doesn’t know if one will stick to it until their life is required of them.  But, overcoming Satan may require us to give up our life.  I say, you will more likely be faithful to the end if you determine to be faithful now, while you have time to think it all through. Satan likes to attack us when we are not thinking, tired, or off guard.  If we are constantly claiming the blood of Christ, sharing our faith and determined to be faithful to the end, we can be overcomers.
